There’s something about Kitty that has me forever rooting for her. She has worked with a diverse group of really cool producers and her Soundcloud is littered with awesome tracks she’s discovered and reposted. “MISS U” was my favorite track on Kitty’s FROSTBITE EP, released back in November, and I’m thrilled to see an artist like Jai Wolf give it the remix treatment. Jai slows the song down a bit, giving it room to breath and build, eventually climaxing with a glittery explosion of skittering hi-hats and colorful synths.
Hot damn! High-octane electro trio Savoy just dropped “TEKNOTIZE”, a raging techno-trap banger with classic verses from Notorious B.I.G.’s “Hypnotize”. If this song doesn’t fire you up, you may need to check that pulse of yours. Also worth mentioning: the crazy cover art… Awesome.
There’s some serious firepower behind this remix of Wiley’s “And Again”. Doshy, Bleep Bloop, and The OriGinALz team up to deliver a calculated and chaotic banger that perfectly frames verses from Wiley and a snarling chorus from God’s Gift. UK grime is widely predicted to become more prevalent in the US this year, and remixes like this ensure that we Americans take notice.

Quietly releasing a stream of quality songs over the past month, Holy Rain is establishing a tight and ethereal sound that’s due to receive plenty of recognition. “Reach” starts out spaciously elegant, but ascends into a thumping instrumental with driving bass and softly echoing piano keys. It fades out around the two and a half minute mark, only to return in glorious fashion with a pulsating kick drum pattern that finishes off the song with an exclamation point.

Both Lux Natura and Tobias excel when it comes to organic and relaxing instrumental music, so a collaboration between the two makes perfect sense. This type of music creates a calming mental image for me every time I listen. Am I at my desk right now or am I laying on a bed of soft pine needles in the forest? Take a listen; “Through the Pines” feels like a stream of warm water trickling through your mind.
Anticipation continues to build for Conrank’s NOT WITHOUT EP… I’m impressed with how he’s pulling off such unique and exciting sounds here. Frantic spanish guitar riffs are interrupted by churning bass and fluttering synth beeps; elements that really have no business being together, but Conrank pulls it off and makes it work to great effect.

I haven’t seen Fifty Shades of Grey yet, but I have had the pleasure of listening to the soundtrack. With original contributions from big name artists like The Weeknd, Sia, Jessie Ware, and Ellie Goulding, it’s worth checking out.
“Love Me Like You Do” is the type of smart and sweet pop music that we love from Ellie– and it’s the perfect piece for a quality remix. Airia got his hands on an acapella and crafted the rest of this dazzling rendition from scratch. Soft keys and bouncy synths build on each other, but never overpower, keeping Ellie’s beautiful voice front and center. Love it.
Check out the brand new Short Stories EP from Soulection‘s hottest artist, Sam Gellaitry. Sam continuously keeps you on your toes, always conjuring up creative new sounds. He does it again on this EP with soaring synths, boisterous bass, and traces of trap, all wrapped up in a cohesive and digestible package. It’s one of the better projects I’ve heard so far this year.
My favorite track is “To Earth and Back”, but you can stream the rest below.
With sly production and added hip-hop curiosities, this reworking is a genre-swapping change of gears. Boasting cut-time croons and sweeping synthesizers, Mura Masa, “the 17-year-old beat-slayer, heartbreaker,” injects a soulful take on the gloomy English desperation of the original. This remix provides a new skin as well as inflated coolness to Aquilo’s solid lyricism.
The prominence of the chillwave genre may have been short lived, but that didn’t hold back BLACKBIRD BLACKBIRD’s evolution as a musician. He has surged forward as an electronic artist that stands apart; and his latest release “Dissolve” continues to push. This airy instrumental feels like chasing after a setting sun, soaring over top a sea of clouds. BLACKBIRD BLACKBIRD is forever fly.
